Alert |
Alerts are generated when alert conditions are met. Unit data point, unit activity, unit status or a change in status, or packet type can trigger alerts.
Alerts are set up by users in Unit Admin. Alert types include Data, Activity, Status, and Packet.
See also Notification. |
Asset |
An asset is a device or installation owned or operated by a client. Assets connect to one or more channels of a unit. The unit monitors asset properties, such as voltage levels, accumulator counts, register readings, or open/close (high/low) states. |
B |

|
|
C |
Client Serial |
Unique number assigned to a unit by the client for identification purposes. |
Client Admin |
The Client Admin is responsible for assigning unit and user security roles (permissions) to other system users. The Client Admin has full access to all viewing and editing functions in the website. |
|
|
D |
Data Point |
Measurement or status information included in the packet transmitted from the unit. For example, input/output channels (analog and digital), battery status, battery voltage level, and RSSI are each considered a data point. |
Deadband |
Deadband is a range on either side of a channel alarm setting where no alarm will be triggered in order to avoid false alarms, which could be caused by noise and other small changes in the signal. The deadband create a "neutral zone," which prevents alarms from occurring until the channel's voltage input is outside the zone. |
Debounce filter |
Debounce is an optional filter that applies to
alarms. The filter uses the entered value as the
number of seconds an input channel must remain
in an alarm state before the unit transmits an
alarm. The purpose of the filter is to prevent short
spurious noise pulses from triggering an alarm. If
the input channel goes out of alarm during the
polling cycle, the unit resets and does not
transmit an alarm. When Debounce is set to zero
(0), no filter is applied and the alarm state is
recognized immediately. |
E |
ESN |
Electronic Serial Number. Unique serial number assigned by the radio manufacturer to a satellite or GSM cellular radio. |
|
|
F |

G |
GlobalGram |
GlobalGram is an alternative packet format used by the Orbcomm satellite when a gateway earth station is unavailable. GlobalGram is an option in the Info tab of Unit Admin for the ICP+ and ICP; use this option only when directed by Technical Support. |
GPRS |
General Packet Radio Services - a packet-based wireless communication service that promises data rates from 56 up to 114 Kbps and continuous connection to the Internet for mobile phone and computer users. |

I |
Installation Map |
A template for creating asset types, which defines the properties of the assets as well as how units connect to that asset type. See Asset Type Editor - How to Create an Asset Type. |

L |
Live Scaling |
A view of the data point's current processed value along with a re-processed value showing what the current value would have been if the current scaling was used.
The re-processed value is updated as the user changes scaling values. |
|
|
M |
MIN |
Mobile Identification Number. Unique identification number assigned by the communication network to a satellite or GSM cellular radio. |
|
|
N |
Notification |
A communication (email, phone, FAX, text message, mail, numeric page, or FTP) to designated personnel associated with an alert. See also Alert. |
|
|
O |
|
|
|
|
P |
Packet |
A packet is data transmitted from the unit to the website. Packets include alert, channel measurement, and battery status data. |
Persistence |
Persistence is a technique used in remote unit analog inputs to filter out false alarms, which avoids unnecessary transmissions and the costs associated with those transmissions. |
Property |
Property refers to an asset's properties, such as voltage levels, accumulator counts, register readings, or open/close (high/low) states. |
Q |
|
|
|
|
R |
RMU |
Remote Monitoring Unit. Also referred to as unit. |
RSSI |
Receive Signal Strength Indicator. Value indicating the relative signal strength of the received digital cellular or satellite signal, such as 40.28dB or 14. |
S |
Serial or Serial # |
A unique number assigned to a unit at the factory for identification purposes. |
|
|
T |
Trend Information |
Unit, data point, or asset information over a 1 week period. For example, Unit Detail provides battery voltage, data point, and RSSI trend information. |
