Units: General Unit Settings Overview

RSS
Modified on 10/03/2011 13:01 by linda Categorized as Units

Use Unit Admin to view or edit general unit settings that are common to all unit types. General unit settings are those that are universal and not affected by the type or application of the unit (with the exception of Update Location From Unit, Send Settings, and GlobalGram). Your user name must be assigned user permissions by your Client Admin to view or edit general unit settings in the Info, Location, and Journal tabs of Unit Admin.

For information on the settings found under the Settings, Alerts, and Template tabs, see Related Topics or other Help topics for a specific unit type.

To access Unit Admin and view or edit unit settings, click Units > Unit Admin and then select a unit. General unit settings can be found on the following tabs:

Info

  • ID: The factory-assigned identification number for the unit.
  • Name: User-assigned name for the unit.
  • Serial: A unique serial number. Providing a client serial number allows you to identify a unit using a system that is meaningful to your company, such as a unique part number or other type of identifier. The field accepts alphanumeric characters.
  • System Serial: The factory-assigned number for the unit. Read-only.
  • Local Time Zone: The time zone for the area where the unit is located.
  • Observe Daylight Savings: A check box that notes whether or not Daylight Savings Time is observed.
  • Current Status: The current status of the unit. Ready-only.
  • Clear Status: Clears all alerts and resets the unit's interruption status.
  • Notes: A text field for any notes.
  • Update Location From Unit: For RM4010 or ICP units only. A check box that, when checked, will update the unit's GPS coordinates on the website using packet data transmitted from the unit.
  • MIN: Factory-assigned number. Read-only.
  • ESN: Factory-assigned number. Read-only.
  • Service Status: The unit's current service status. Choose from one of the following options:
    • Installed (Notifications ON): Select this option if the unit is installed in the field and you want the system to send a notification when an alert occurs. The system sends a notification to designated contacts according to settings in the Alerts tab of Unit Admin and in User Contact Information of My Profile.
    • Installed (Notifications OFF): Select this option to disable notifications. The system will not send notifications when an alert occurs.
    • Not Installed: Select this option when the unit is not yet installed in the field.
    • Inactive: Select this option when the unit has been removed from service or decommissioned.
If Service Status is changed to Inactive, an alert icon (alert icon) displays next to the field. Click the alert icon to display a Billing Notice information window with the message "Changing the Unit Status to Inactive does not change the billing." The current bill plan for the unit will stay in effect even if the unit is set to Inactive. Contact Customer Support for more information.
    • In Repair: Select this option when the unit has been returned to the factory for repairs.
  • Provider Status: The provider's current status. Read-only.
  • GlobalGram: For ICP and ICP+ units only. Select this option only when directed by Technical Support. If selected, this option sends outgoing commands to the ICP+ or ICP in a GlobalGram. This option is typically used when the ICP+ or ICP is installed in a remote location and a Gateway Earth Station is unavailable.
  • Send Settings: For RM4010 units only. Sends settings to the unit.

Location

  • Latitude: Enter Latitude coordinates to locate a unit. Use with the Longitude field.
  • Longitude: Enter Longitude coordinates to locate a unit. Use with the Latitude field.
  • Search By Address: Allows the unit's address to be used to locate it on the display map.

Journal

  • Journal: Information about the unit. An entry can be edited after creating it.
