Units: General Data Point Settings Overview

RSS
Modified on 06/08/2011 11:45 by linda Categorized as Units

Unit data point settings are measurement parameters and identification data you provide for a unit and its related data points, such as channel measurements and status information. Based on the unit type, channel measurements may include analog, digital, and accumulator readings. Status information may include POR (power on reset), RSSI (receive signal strength indicator), GPS coordinates, and temperature data. Depending on the unit type, typical unit data point settings include those in the following list:

  • Unit settings: name, client serial number, time zone, GPS coordinates, and note and journal entries
  • Data point settings: name, channel and measurement settings, enable/disable data point, and alert/alarm settings

Use the Data Point tab in Unit Admin to add or edit general unit data point settings that are common to all unit types. General unit data point settings are those that are not affected by the type or application of the unit. Your user name must be assigned user permissions by your Client Admin to edit unit data point settings.

Note: For data point settings specific to each unit type, see Related Topics below.

General unit data point settings include those in the following list:

  • Alias: Use the Alias field to enter a user-friendly name for a unit data point. Enter a description that is meaningful to your company, such as a unique part number or other type of identifier.
  • Engineering Unit Label: Use this field to identify the unit of measurement for the option selected in the 'Display As' field. For example, if 'Display As' is Volts, type V, VAC, VDC, volts, or a similar description.
  • Enabled: Use the Enabled check box to enable or disable a unit data point. When a check mark displays inside the check box, the unit data point is activated for service (enabled). To deactivate (disable) a data point, click Enabled again to remove the check mark and remove the unit data point from service.
  • Decimal Places: For analog data points only, use Decimal Places to identify how many numbers appear after the decimal in a data point measurement reading.
  • State Conversions (conversion label): For digital data points only, use fields in the Conversion column to enter a description for one or more Value fields (labeled High, Medium, and Low). For example, enter Open for High, Closed for Low, or enter a description typically used by your company.
  • Correction Factor (accumulator and Power on Reset data points only): Use this field to enter a numerical value greater than zero (0) that will be multiplied by the data point's value. If you do not want to apply a correction factor to the data point's value, leave this field empty.
  • Value Descriptions: For Analog data points only, displays code values and their description.

You can display the Data Point tab from several views. Two of the methods are described below.
