RM4000 Series: How to Set Up Unit Data Points

Use the procedures below to set up analog, digital, active digital, interrupter, Firmware Version, and accumulator data points in the Data Point and Settings tabs of Unit Admin. For related information, see the links in Related Topics.

Data Point Tab

To display the Data Point tab:

1. Click Units > Unit Admin.
2. Select a unit and then a data point in the navigation pane, such as Active Digital, Digital, Analog, Firmware Version, or Accumulator.

The settings Display As, Decimal Places, and Value Descriptions apply only to analog or Accumulator data points. State Conversions applies only to active digital and digital data points.

Use the Data Point tab to perform any of the following tasks:

• switch a data point type from digital to analog or from analog to digital (RM4010, channels 1-4)
• edit a data point Alias (all units)
• edit Display As to identify the output of a data point (analog)
• edit the decimal place in measurement readings (analog)
• edit the offset that is added to the data point value (analog)
• edit a data point Engineering Unit Label (all units)
• edit State Conversions (active digital and digital)
• add or edit the Value Descriptions (analog)
• add or edit the correction factor (accumulator and Firmware Version)

To switch a data point type ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Select either digital or analog from the Switch Channel Type list.
2. Click the save icon () to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To edit a data point alias ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Type a description in the Alias field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To identify the output of a data point ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Click Display As and select an output option from the list of options.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To edit the decimal place in measurement readings ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Click Decimal Places and select a value in the list of options.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To edit the offset that is added to the data point value ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Type a value in the Offset field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To edit a data point Engineering Unit Label ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Type a description in the field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

 

To edit the State Conversion ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Type a description in the Conversion field that applies to an adjacent field in the Value column.
2. Select an icon (optional) that will be displayed in the Run Time view (see Run Time).
3. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add a Value Description ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Type a number in the first field next to Add Description.
2. Type a description of the value in the second field.
3. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.
4. The value and its description are added in the Value Descriptions table.

To add or edit a correction factor for an accumulator or Firmware Version ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Enter a value in the Correction Factor field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

Settings Tab

To display the Settings tab: ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Click Units > Unit Admin.
2. Select a unit and then a data point in the navigation pane, such as Analog.

Use the Settings tab to perform any of the following tasks:

• enable an RM4010 unit's channels to be turned on/off (analog, digital)
• add or edit a value for the Debounce Filter (digital)
• add or edit input voltage selection (analog)
• add or edit raw voltage values (on unit input) high (analog)
• edit raw voltage values (on unit input) low (analog)
• select a response filter time (analog)
• add or edit engineering unit value (analog)
• add or edit engineering unit maximum (analog)
• add or edit engineering unit minimum (analog)
• select or deselect a high alarm transmission (analog, digital)
• select or deselect to repeat a high alarm transmission(analog, digital)
• add or edit an alarm value for the high alarm (analog)
• add or edit a deadband value for the high alarm(analog)
• select or deselect a low alarm transmission (analog, digital)
• select or deselect to repeat a low alarm transmission (analog, digital)
• add or edit an alarm value for the low alarm (analog)
• add or edit a deadband value for the low alarm (analog)
• add or edit a persistence value (analog)
• add or edit a repeat delay value (analog, digital)
• add calculated use date (accumulator)
• add or edit the current accumulator value (accumulator)
• add or edit the accumulator alarm value (accumulator)
• select or deselect to reset on high alt channel (accumulator)
• add or edit accumulator reset value (accumulator)
• add or edit repeat alarm frequency (accumulator)
• select or deselect to reset on low alt channel (accumulator)
• send settings to an RM4010 unit (analog, digital, accumulator)

To enable an RM4010 unit's channels to be turned on/off with the Send Settings button ˆSettings tabˆ

1. To enable the channel to receive commands from the website, click the Enable Channel on Hardware check box to add a check mark to the box.
2. To disable the channel from receiving commands from the website, click the Enable Channel on Hardware check box again to remove the check mark from the box.

To add or edit a value for the Debounce Filter ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Debounce Filter field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add or edit the input voltage selection ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Click Voltage Card and select a value from the list of options.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add or edit raw voltage values (on unit input) high ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Raw Input High field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add or edit raw voltage values (on unit input) low ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Raw Input Low field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To select the response filter time ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Select a value from the list of choices in the Response Filter field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

The unit's current processed value, based on the scaling values entered above, will display under Live Scaling next to the Voltage Card field. Live Scaling is updated whenever the Input Scale fields are changed.

To add or edit the Engineering Unit ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Engineering Unit field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add or edit the engineering unit maximum value ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Engineering Unit Maximum field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add or edit the engineering unit minimum value ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Engineering Unit Minimum field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To select the Transmit High Alarm ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Click the check box for the Transmit High Alarm to add a check mark to the check box.
2. Click the check box again to remove the check mark.
3. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To select the Repeat High Alarm ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Click the check box for the Repeat High Alarm to add a check mark to the check box.
2. Click the check box again to remove the check mark.
3. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add or edit the high alarm value ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Alarm Value field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

An Alarm Max value, based on the Engineering Units range, displays below the field.

To add or edit the deadband value for the high alarm ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Deadband field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

A High Deadband Max value, based on the Engineering Units range, displays below the field.

To select the Transmit Low Alarm ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Click the check box for the Transmit Low Alarm to add a check mark to the check box.
2. Click the check box again to remove the check mark.
3. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To select the Repeat Low Alarm ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Click the check box for the Repeat Low Alarm to add a check mark to the check box.
2. Click the check box again to remove the check mark.
3. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add or edit the low alarm value ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Alarm Value field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

An Alarm Min value, based on the Engineering Units range, displays below the field.

To add or edit the deadband value for the low alarm ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Deadband field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

A Low Deadband Max value, based on the Engineering Units range, displays below the field.

To add or edit persistence for alarms ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Persistence field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To edit the repeat delay for alarms value ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Repeat Delay field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add a calculated use date ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Click the arrow in the Calculated Use Date field and select a date from the calendar.
2. Click Today to select the current date.
3. Click the arrows to the left or right of the current month to select another month.
4. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add or edit the Current Accumulator Value ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Current Accumulator Value field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add or edit the Accumulator Alarm Value ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Accumulator Alarm Value field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To select Reset on High Alt Channel ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Click check box for the Reset on High Alt Channel to add a check mark to the check box.
2. Click the check box again to remove the check mark.
3. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add or edit the Accumulator Reset Value ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value in the Accumulator Reset Value field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To add or edit the Repeat Alarm Frequency value ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Enter a value (in seconds) in the Repeat Alarm Frequency field.
2. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To select Reset on Low Alt Channel ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Click the check box for the Reset on Low Alt Channel field to add a check mark to the check box.
2. Click the check box again to remove the check mark.
3. Click Save to save changes or Reset to cancel changes and return to the last, saved setting.

To send settings to the unit ˆSettings tabˆ

1. Click Send Settings.
2. Review settings when the Send Unit Settings window displays. Highlighted (in orange) settings indicate those that will be sent to the RM4010.
3. Click Sync Unit Settings to send updated settings to the unit.
4. View the information in the status table to verify settings have been sent to the RM4010.

If you change any setting and then click the Save button, a Sync Settings dialog box displays. Click Yes to send the settings now or No to close the window and not send settings. To verify that the settings were successfully sent to the unit, click the Send Settings button to view the status table on the Send Unit Settings page.
