Troubleshooting a Unit That Is Not Clicking

After you connect the battery cable to the remote monitoring unit, the unit will produce a clicking sound. The clicking indicates that the unit is polling or scanning the input channels. This is a normal function of the unit. If the unit does not produce a clicking sound after applying power, use the following troubleshooting tip to solve the problem. Be sure to complete both steps.

  1. Check the battery voltage level. Recharge the battery if the voltage level is 11.0 volts or less. Replace the battery if the voltage is 10.8 volts or less. To check the voltage level of the battery, perform one of the following:
    1. With the battery connected to the unit, disconnect the solar panel or A/C charger. Measure the battery voltage level at the battery leads. This method gives a very accurate level read.
    2. Disconnect the battery from the unit and check the battery voltage at the battery leads.
    3. Unplug the battery from the unit and check the battery voltage at the end of the battery wire leads. If the battery voltage is zero, then the fuse in the wire leads has blown (for CP-ORB and GSM units only).
  2. Disconnect the battery cable from the unit for 10 seconds to completely power down the unit and then reconnect the battery cable.
