What’s the best way to set up the RM4010 satellite terminal?

NOTE: After connecting the RM4010 unit to your computer and starting the UCT, it should take less than two (2) minutes for the RM4010 satellite terminal's status message in the Communication Settings window to change from Not Available to Acquiring. The status message Acquired displays when a link has been established with the satellite. Depending on satellite network activity, it may take up to eight (8) minutes for the RM4010 to establish a link with the satellite.

Follow these steps to set up your satellite terminal:

  1. Determine the proper orientation of the satellite terminal:
    1. Connect the satellite terminal cable to the connector on the bottom of the RM4010 enclosure.
    2. Turn ON the unit, if the unit is not powered on.
    3. Connect the provided configuration cable in the USB CONFIG port on the RM4010 and the other end of the cable in a USB port on your computer.
    4. Start the UCT software.
    5. Verify GPS coordinates display in GPS Information of the main configuration window. If GPS coordinates do not display within a few minutes, complete the following steps to enter your location’s coordinates:
      1. Click Change in Communication Settings to display Satellite Setup Wizard.
      2. Follow the prompts to enter your location’s GPS coordinates and either accept the recommended satellite or choose another. When recommended Bearing (azimuth) and Elevation coordinates display, record the information for later use.
  2. Install the satellite terminal:
    1. Install the satellite terminal on the mounting surface using the provided mounting bracket. Align the satellite terminal using the recommended Bearing (azimuth) and Elevation coordinates that you recorded earlier.
    2. Place the GPS antenna on the satellite terminal mounting bracket.
  3. Use the UCT software to verify that the following information displays in Communication Settings:
    1. Satellite status messages display in the following order: Not Available, Acquiring, and then Acquired.
    2. Signal Value is 18.5dB or better when a satellite link is Acquired.
    3. Depending on satellite network activity, it may take up to eight (8) minutes for the RM4010 to establish a link with the satellite.
  4. If the satellite status message does not change to Acquired with a Signal Strength value of at least 18.5dB, complete the following steps:
    1. Verify the orientation of the satellite terminal.
    2. Verify that objects or terrain do not interfere with satellite communication.
  5. If required, click Change in Communication Settings to run Satellite Setup Wizard and select a different satellite.
