Asset Type Editor: How to Create an Asset Type

Use the Asset Type Editor to perform any of the following tasks:

• add an asset type
• edit an asset type
• add, delete, or edit properties for an asset type
• create, edit, or delete an installation map
• name an asset type and assign an icon

To access Asset Type Editor, click Assets > Asset Type Editor and then perform any of the following tasks:

To add an asset type: ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Select an asset type from the New Asset type field.
2. Click the add icon (+).

To edit an asset type: ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Click an asset type from the navigation pane.
2. Edit the properties, installation map, name, or icon for the asset type.

To add, delete, or edit properties for an asset type: ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Click an asset type from the navigation pane.
2. Click the Properties tab.
3. To add a property:
1. Type a name in the Name field.
2. Select a type from the Type field.
3. Click the Save button.
4. To edit a property:
   1. Click the edit icon (pencil) next to the property name.
   2. Edit the property name.
   3. Click the save icon (disk) to save changes or the cancel icon (X) to cancel.
5. To delete a property:
   1. Click the delete icon (-) next to the property name.
   2. Click Yes in the Delete Property message window to delete or click No to cancel.

To create, edit, or delete an installation map:ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Click an asset type from the navigation pane.
2. Click the Unit Mapping tab.
3. To add an installation map:
1. Click the add icon (+)
2. Type a name for the map in the Installation Map Name field.
3. Click the Save button.
4. To edit the name of an installation map:
1. Click the name of the installation map.
2. Edit the name for the map in the Installation Map Name field.
3. Click the Save button.
5. To edit (add products and map the product's data points to the asset type properties):
   1. Click the name of the installation map.
   2. Click Add Product.
   3. In the pop-up window, type a name for the product in the Product Name field and select a product type from the list in the Product Type field. Click Add.
   4. To map the data point of the product to the asset type property, click the map data point icon (pencil) and select the data point from the list of choices. Click the save icon (disk) to save or the cancel icon (X) to cancel.

   Note: The list of data points includes data points for all products that were added to the Installed Products box.

6. To delete a data point mapping:
   1. Click the delete icon (-) next to the data point name.
7. To delete an installation map:
   1. Click the name of the installation map.
   2. Click the delete icon (-).
   3. In the Delete Map window, click Yes to delete the map or No to cancel.

To name an asset type and assign an icon:ˆtop of pageˆ

1. Click an asset type from the navigation pane.
2. Click the Info tab.
3. Type a name for the asset type in the Asset Type Name field.
4. Select an icon from the list of choices in the Icon field.
5. Click Apply.
